What is improv?

Improv comedy is live acting where everything—the jokes, characters, and stories—is made up right on the spot without a script. Instead of memorizing lines, performers make things up as they go, usually starting with a single word or idea suggested by the audience. The secret to making it work is a rule called "Yes, And," which just means the actors always agree with each other's ideas and keep building on them. Because no one knows what will happen next, every single show is a completely unique, funny surprise.
